If you’re hoping for better teeth or bite alignment, call our office. We would be thrilled to work with you to achieve your ideal smile through our cosmetic makeover services.

Common Questions about Invisalign

Why get Invisalign?

Apart from purely cosmetic purposes, Dr. Fraiman will often use Invisalign as one part of an overall restorative treatment plan. Invisible orthodontic aligners are used to gradually move, rotate, and shift teeth into their proper place. Sometimes, Dr. Fraiman will use Invisalign to move teeth closer to their ideal place in preparation for other restorations. For example, straightening teeth with Invisalign before getting veneers means that the veneers can be thinner and the teeth don’t need to be shaped as much before placement—creating a more conservative, less invasive approach.

How does Invisalign move teeth?

Using a 3D scan of your teeth, Invisalign creates a series of custom, clear trays which will be used to gradually move teeth into the desired position. You will simply wear one tray at a time, swapping for the next one every two to three weeks, depending on Dr. Fraiman’s recommendations. The clear aligners need to be worn at all times—both during the day and at night—but they can be taken out to eat and brush teeth. You will visit Fraiman Orthodontics about every six weeks so Dr. Fraiman can briefly check the progress of your smile and ensure all is going smoothly.

Will Invisalign fix my bite?

Yes! Clear aligners are able to correct crooked smiles as well as overbites, underbites, or crossbites. They can be used on their own for purely cosmetic alignment as well as in conjunction with more complex restorations at Fraiman Prosthodontics. If you’re interested in correcting a bite misalignment with clear dental aligners, call our office.

Will Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign is not a painful process. Usually, patients will experience minor discomfort when they first start using a new tray—every two to three weeks—but that is expected to go away after the first day.

What can I eat with Invisalign?

The beauty of Invisalign is that you can eat what you like! There are no wires or brackets to worry about breaking or getting food caught. With clear aligners, you simply remove them when you are ready to eat. If you can’t brush your teeth after a meal, thoroughly rinse before putting the aligners back on. As always, you should follow a healthy oral hygiene routine of brushing, flossing, and visiting a dental hygienist for regular cleanings.

Who is Invisalign suitable for?

Virtually everybody is a candidate for orthodontics and clear aligner treatment. There is no specific age that you have to be—no one is too old and no one is too young. Invisalign is often a choice made by the patient for cosmetic improvements to their smile. Sometimes, Dr. Fraiman will also recommend Invisalign in tandem with other restorative treatments that would benefit from better alignment of the teeth. In all cases, Dr. Fraiman will have a conversation with you about what to expect from Invisalign and how it can benefit you.

How long does it take until I see results with Invisalign?

This will depend on the amount of movement that is needed. For just a couple or a few teeth to be realigned, it can take as little as a few months. More extensive treatments may require more than a year. In all cases, patients should expect to start seeing movement in the first three to four weeks of treatment. You will come in every six weeks for a quick check-up to make sure the teeth are moving in the proper direction and at the proper rate.

Can I use Invisalign on just my front teeth?

While it’s possible to achieve a simple quick fix with Invisalign—for example, just moving the front few teeth—Dr. Fraiman always recommends comprehensive care so that all teeth are aligned properly upon completion. In addition to a better-looking smile, you will have a functional, healthy, long-term bite. If you’re interested in clear dental aligners to fix your front teeth, Dr. Fraiman would be happy to talk with you about the different options.

Is Invisalign covered by insurance?

Most major dental insurance providers have orthodontic coverage to help offset the cost of clear dental aligners.
